More EV barriers broken as Dongfeng 007 Fastback Coupe redefines electric performance and value in New Zealand

Less than two weeks after the announcement of the best value EV SUV for sale in New Zealand, the VIGO, Dongfeng Motor has released details of the EV performance car deal of the year, revealing the new Rear-Wheel Drive ‘Long Range’ 007 with 520km of range is available from $54,990 while the All-Wheel Drive ‘Performance’ 400kW model with a 0-100km/h sprint of just 3.9-seconds will be available from $59,990.

The Dongfeng 007 is available to order now and test drives will commence at Armstrong’s Dongfeng dealerships from mid-February. The development marks a major milestone for the marque and sets a new benchmark for value, performance and technology in the large passenger electric vehicle segment.

“Thanks to Dongfeng, we’re helping Kiwi families drive their dreams and by making a wide range of attractive, technology-rich new-energy vehicles available that deliver leading value across a variety of market segments,” said Simon Rutherford, CEO, Armstrong’s Distribution Limited.

“These two new low-slung fastback coupe models feature premium appointments and are the epitome of an elegant sports tourer and, at the same time, redefine value and performance in the Large Electric Sedan Segment.

“The 007 is the ultimate showcase of sophistication, innovation and design and delivers premium-grade performance without the premium price tag.”

The Dongfeng 007 is the largest model in the Dongfeng lineup and has been designated the brand’s hero product for New Zealand.  Designed from the ground up as a battery-electric vehicle, the 007 combines striking fastback styling, class-leading aerodynamics and a refined, high-tech interior with advanced electric powertrain engineering tailored for both urban commuting and longer-distance travel.

Priced to deliver the best-value large electric sedan in the New Zealand market, the Dongfeng 007 challenges long-established premium competitors, delivering comparable, and in several cases superior, performance and technology at a significantly lower price point.

Both variants are powered by Dongfeng’s Mach-E 10-in-1 electric drive technology, paired with a 70kWh traction battery and an active shutter grille that optimises cooling and efficiency.

Visually, the Dongfeng 007 stands out with a sleek fastback coupe profile, frameless doors, hidden door handles and sharp lighting signatures.  The design delivers the efficiency of a sedan with the practicality of a hatch – without the aerodynamic penalties of an SUV.

Inside, the long 2,915mm wheelbase translates to a spacious, refined cabin featuring premium materials and a 15.6-inch digital interface powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 Computing Chip.  This high-performance platform ensures fast system response, seamless connectivity and long-term software capability. The same system supports the vehicle’s built-in recording function, which uses the vehicle’s cameras and can be activated manually or during emergency events.

“The Dongfeng 007 fundamentally changes the large EV sedan conversation in New Zealand,” said Mr Rutherford.

“It delivers the kind of performance, refinement and space buyers expect from premium European brands, but at a price that dramatically lowers the barrier to entry.”

With a drag coefficient of just 0.209, the Dongfeng 007 is the most aerodynamically efficient EV sedan currently available in New Zealand.  This translates into improved real-world efficiency, quieter cruising and enhanced high-speed stability which outperforms key rivals.

The Rear-Wheel Drive Long Range variant offers up to 520km WLTP range and ultra-fast maximum  200kW DC charging from 30–80 percent in just 26 minutes, and is priced at $54,990.

Acceleration credentials of the All-Wheel Drive Performance model are equally compelling, with 400kW propelling the vehicle from 0–100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

“At $59,990, no other large sedan offers this level of performance and technology,” said Mr Rutherford.

The 007 comes standard in Morning White, or is available with a $499 colour paint option with choices consisting of Night Shadow Black, Sun Gold, Stone Grey and, exclusively for the Performance version, Orchid Purple.

A distinctive interior trim is reserved for each model, specifically Grey & Black for Long Range and Ivory & Grey for Performance.

Safety and intelligent technology sit at the heart of the 007 proposition. Every model is fitted with six airbags, rear parking sensors and a 540-degree surround-view camera.

A comprehensive suite of Level Two Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Braking and Intelligent Door Opening Warning, contribute to the 007’s five-star Vehicle Safety Risk Rating.

Completing the premium experience is the 19-speaker WANOS theatre-grade panoramic sound system, including integrated headrest speakers and ambient lighting synchronisation for a fully immersive cabin environment.

As New Zealand accelerates its transition toward lower-emissions transport, the Dongfeng 007 arrives at a pivotal moment, offering customers a compelling, high-performance alternative that redefines expectations of what a large electric sedan can deliver.

Backed by a 6-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty and 6-year roadside assistance, 007 delivers long-term confidence alongside exceptional value.

Additionally, Dongfeng is happy to announce the $29,990 Special Offer on the BOX will be available till the end of April 2026.
